Vientiane Times interviewed Prof. Masamine Jimba, the vice president of the consortium.
Prof. Boungnong Boupha who is presently a member of the Lao Diet and the
former director of the National Institute of Public Health, visited the Research Institute
for Humanity and Nature, Kyoto in December, 2012 and participated in the
symposium with between the Lao health authority and the consortium.
National Center for Global Health and Medicine established a joint laboratory at Institut Pasteur du Laos in December,
2011. The overall goal is to establish a
Lao-Japan Joint Laboratory (LJJL) of Excellence for malaria and other
parasitic disease research that can make substantial contributions to the
mitigation and containment of the diseases in Lao PDR, and can be sustained
beyond the duration of this project. This goal will be achieved through
state-of-the-art research on molecular genetic epidemiological studies in the
different epidemiological settings in Lao PDR; collaborations with national
malaria and other parasitic diseases control programs to develop locally
adapted control strategies; and training, career development and capacity
building at Institut Pasteur of Laos.
