The overall goal is to establish a Lao-Japan Joint Laboratory (LJJL) of Excellence for malaria and other parasitic disease research that can make substantial contributions to the mitigation and containment of the diseases in Lao PDR, and can be sustained beyond the duration of this project. This goal will be achieved through state-of-the-art research on molecular genetic epidemiological studies in the different epidemiological settings in Lao PDR; collaborations with national malaria and other parasitic diseases control programs to develop locally adapted control strategies; and training, career development and capacity building at Institut Pasteur of Laos.
